From the Sidelines: Black History Month
For Black History Month, we are shedding light on three influential figures within the Calgary soccer community as our Spotlight members of the month.

Toks Bakinson (Left)
Toks Bakinson is a Referee, Referee Instructor, and was selected to Coach at the 2023 Alberta Summer Games. She is known for motivating and providing mentorship to both players and officials. In 2018, Bakinson received the Alberta Soccer Woman of Distinction Award for her outstanding achievements and contributions to soccer in Alberta.
She believes coaching entails nurturing relationships with athletes, encouraging their development, and inspiring their potential. According to her, this is accomplished by respecting and fostering their individualities.
Sam Adekugbe (Middle)
A Calgary native who spent time in the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club Program, subsequently played for Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the Canada National Team. Leading and inspiring by paving the way for the next generation.
Kevin Francis (Right)
With a professional soccer career spanning 17 years, Kevin now imparts his knowledge and experience as a coach at the New Frontier Soccer Club in Calgary.
